Nose Piercing As Self Expression

January 24th, 2008 by Nose Piercing Expert

While nose piercing was once thought to be a “native” and cultural aspect of Indian, Asian, and African cultures, it has grown in popularity among the rest of the world.  It is all to common to see a nose piercing in a young man or woman who is not of these cultures and who wear nose rings as a way to express themselves to the rest of society.  There is a wide variety in the styles of nose rings today ranging from wood, metal, and rubber pieces that can be almost any shape, color, or style.  Nose piercings have become a main way for young people to express their true identity.

Nose piercing has been a form of body art, or body decoration, for thousands of years.  Although traditionally practiced by ancient peoples and native cultures, nose piercing has been adopted by today’s young people wishing to express themselves to their friends, family, and the world.  The traditional cultures that practiced the art of nose piercing, and still do to this day include those in Africa, Asia, and India.  It is common to see nose piercing among people of these cultures today.  It is also common to see nose piercing among young alternative and “punk rock” individuals as well.

No matter what your reasons for getting a nose piercing, it is extremely important to take proper care of any nose piercing whether it is new or old.  The nose is often exposed to germs and infection, so any nose piercing is very susceptible to infection from these germs.  When you first get your piercing it is essential to clean the piercing out several times a day and to twist the piercing so that the healing process does not occur around the metal jewelry.  You will want your piercing to be easily removed and changed from time to time.  If you do not twist the jewelry during the healing process, you run the risk of injury when you attempt to remove the ring or stud.

In many cases, the piercing salon will have a wide selection of nose rings for you to choose from when you get the initial piercing.  However, there is usually a standard gauge that piercing artists prefer to start with.  Once the healing process is complete, you are always free to return to get a larger gauged nose ring.  Many people visit the piercing salon for additional jewelry however a variety of stores will carry a selection of nose rings including head shops, alternative stores, and tattoo parlors.  Furthermore, if you would like to change the nose ring that you currently have, you can find one that you like best on the Internet.  Many vendors now offer quite a wide selection of nose rings for a very affordable price.

Nose rings come in a variety of materials and styles today.  You can choose anything from a barbell, stud, or hoop.  These are typically sold in surgical grade stainless steel, but can also be found in wood, rubber, gold, sterling silver, and even titanium.  Additionally, such nose jewelry can be adorned with charms, stones, and other interesting and unique accessories.  It all just depends on your personal preference.  Many times, the metal nose rings are available in different colors; usually every color of the rainbow and then some.  So if you want to express yourself through your nose ring, look for a unique piece of nose jewelry online or in your local piercing parlor.
